SPUD

Remember a couple months ago when I was whining that whenever someone who is married says they have news, people just jump to conclusions and say... "are you pregnant?" Well you can go ahead and jump to those conclusions...
We have news... .....
To answer your question, YES! We are having a baby!
This blog entry has been a long time coming. I have known for about two months and have kept it a secret to most people. This week has been great because we told our parents and some friends. It has been a range of emotions to tell people because it doesn't feel real to me. A) I still look like I am in high school (and sometimes feel like it) so it doesn't feel like I am old enough to have a baby B) Travis still looks like he is in high school so when I start showing people are going to "assume" things C) I seriously don't feel motherly right now. Don't get me wrong because this is exactly what we wanted (this was no accident). It just feels weird to have that title. But we are really excited!!!

If you are wondering about the title of this blog; we call the baby Spud right now because Trav thought it was cliche' to call it a peanut or anything like that. Here is the first picture you will see of Spud.

Trav said it looks like a cockroach on its back; how sentimental.
So ever since I have been telling people about the baby I have been getting the standard pregnancy questions. I will go ahead and answer some of those questions. If you don't care than stop reading:

Q) Have you been sick?
A) Surprisingly enough I have not been sick at all. I did get nauseated here and there, more right before bed actually. I really never felt that sick though. The biggest thing is feeling extremely tired and Trav will probably say that I'm moody too. Whatever dude.

Q) How far along are you?
A) I actually just started the 12Th week yesterday. I am due on October 29Th. I love that it is so close to Halloween because seriously think about the fun birthday parties this kid will have.

Q) Are you fat yet?
A) I feel a little fat, but you can't really tell yet. My clothes are getting a little tighter and Trav says he can tell that my body is preparing. What does that mean? Are my hips widening or something?

Q) Will Travis deliver the baby?
A) I have strict orders that Travis will stay north of my belly button for the delivery. He has other ideas... I'm not a science experiment! And I don't want him to see that side of me... it isn't pretty in that situation.

I think I have covered the basics so far. I'm sure you got more than enough info. But now I may need some info from all you mothers out there. K how the heck do you know what you are doing when the kid comes? (see I sound really motherly) I have the book "what to expect when your expecting" but I'm not really concerned about the pregnancy part... take your prenatals... don't smash the kid... can't be too hard. What do you do when they are out and you have to raise them. If you have any good book recommendations or web sites please tell me. I figure I should probably start educating myself while Spud is cooking. Thanks for every one's support! We miss a lot of you and wish we could be closer!

Woo-hoo for SPUD! And woo-hoo for you! SPUD has travis' hair. You can easily tell.

Nice...all the questions I wanted answered!! I would get the next edition book called, "What to expect the first year." But you'll be fine! And tell travis if both my parents and Paul saw little Owen come out, he should too!! Things will never be the same. Ha ha.

Congrats!! That's so exciting! You will be a great mom. And I agree on the book, "What to Expect the First Year" I looked at it a lot. I read a bunch and learned a lot before I had Roxy, but I don't think anything can totally prepare you for it. You just have to take it one day at a time. Those days, for me, consisted of lots of phone calls to my mom and sister. It can be rough at times, but it is so worth it and so rewarding. The good definitely outweighs the bad. You will have so much fun with a little Mildred running around. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. And Congrats again!

Take Omega 3's. They help with fetal brain development. (but I'm not a mom, so my advice doesn't really count)

Anyway--Congrats Milli! You two teenagers are gonna have the cutest kid! And who cares if people think you're scandalous--I think you should live it up! You know, like wear belly shirts when you have a big bump and make sure Travis is always wearing a dingy wife-beater showing off some tattoos. Maybe you should sell space on your belly for advertising... This could be fun...

I heard that a really good baby book is "Girlfriend guide to first year of Motherhood" or something like that, but I say...Don't READ anything....I think I read way too many books while Bryson was cooking, and then when he was here...I "thought" I knew what I was doing, but got completely stressed out. So, with Taya, I just played it cool and did whatever whenever..(feedings, naps, changes, baths, etc.) and it has been a million times better. JUST STAY CALM and everything will be just fine. Hello, Travis is a Doctor!!! What a perfect help. Oh, and Stud is gorgeous already....can't wait!

Ethan was an emergency C Section, so i didn't have the option of watching that. I did however ask to watch the operation, and it was very cool. So, in the unlikely event that that happens, you need to let him watch that.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is so exciting! You will do awesome! My advice is don't read too much because then you stress about why your baby isn't going "by the book". Just follow your instincts and play it by ear...you will do great! I'm glad you are feeling good.

Pregnancy is so easy! lol. You are just going to LOVE it! When Spud is actually here, you will sometimes think "hmmm, wouldnt it be nice if I could put Spud back in me for a few nights....just so I can get some sleep"lol. You guys will be great parents! I agree. I think Spud will end up looking older than you guys once he's here (notice how I said "he" lol. I think you are having a boy.

You must read the following 3 books (no joke)
-Your fussy baby by Marc Weissbluth
-Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth
-Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood: Practical Parenting from Birth to Six Years by Jim and Charles Fay :)

Good luck!!

Tracie said...

OK, OFFICIAL BABY BIBLE: "HAPPY SLEEP HABIT, HEALTHY CHILD. AND I AM SURE YOU HAVE ALREADY HEARD IT FROM YOUR SISTER. I SWEAR BY THAT BOOK. Milli, you are going to be the best mom on the planet. And even if you aren't (which you ARE, so that doesn't matter), the kid won't know the difference. I am sure we are messing up the crud out of Maddox, but the only thing that really matters, is that he knows how much he is loved.

Kate said...

Yeah Milli and Travis! Congrats! I have "Love and Logic" like Lauren -- it is a great book for when they are toddlers. Personally, I think "What to Expect..." books are lame....I loved "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" by Dr. Glade B Curtis and Judith Schuler. I am in awe at some of the LAME/STUPID questions people actually ask in the "What to Expect" books. Anyway!! That is my 2 cents!

Allie said...

Hooray Milli! Can't wait for the little guy to come out. I think its a boy. (thats based on 100% guessing)
Hey, I agree with Tamara, don't read too much, because every baby is different. i have also learned that people can give really retarded advice. I've had so many people tell me what I should be doing with Kate, and it drives me nuts. My advice is to not take other's advice too seriously. Get some ideas and then do what you think is best for you, not what some author is says is the only way or right way to do something.

I shouldn't say this but I WAS THE FIRST TO KNOW... Haha! Okay, you know what book I would suggest, but if you don't want to read, just call me, I have it memorized! I'm SOOOOOOOO EXCITED for you guys, but mostly for my kids, finally a cousin! I can't wait to see you and I'm demanding a belly shot once a month posted on your blog so I can see little spudette progress... I say spedette because it's going to be a girl!... us Jones's dream!!! Oh, and Trav, I love your comment!!! Nice shot... gross!!! Love you both, and I pray that Spudette looks just like ME!

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so excited for you both. I'm glad you've been feeling well. You'll do just fine as a mom - you constantly learn new things. Plus, you have your mom and sister to be your great examples. I'm sorry I won't get to see you in person. I love to see skinny people be fat for a little while - makes me feel better about myself. I wish you luck during the summer. I know she can be a little racy, but I love the books by Jenny McCarthy. They help you during pregnancy and after - laugh at least. Just enjoy the quite while you have it!!! Oh, and don't find out what you're having - you get better (bigger, more expensive, more necessary, etc.) presents at your showers!

holy crap...i am so suprised. I am so excied for you.Being a parent is a whole new world. One thing that I would have to say is go on vaction, do fun things with your spouse and spend as much time with him alone because it will soon be all over(in a good way)oh yeah....try to sleep as much as possible because it will never be the same again.

WOOOO! I hated most children before Cooper came and despised people that assumed I wanted to hold their baby. The second Cooper came everything changed. You will fall instantly in love and somehow know how to do a lot. I can't wait for pics and updates! Hope you keep feeling well...and I'm going to be you're having a boy :)

Wow-- I am your 27th comment ! Anyway- I knew you would enjoy those pics. I like blood and guts too ! So I know I already e-mailed ya and said congrats, but just thought I would pipe in again and say that I am so excited for you guys- and no matter what you read or hear from family and friends you are never really prepared for that moment when you have delivered the baby and feel like "now what"...it is crazy, but you will be amazed at your instincts.

Hey Milli! Congratulations on the good news. I always love to read your blog - you are so funny. I honestly can say that becoming a mom is so natural. It might be a little hard at first, but some how you just figure things out. I am way excited for you guys! - Elisa

Congrats Milli (and Travis)! You know, I had this sneaking suspicion that you were pregnant and I guess I was right! Good luck with everything. You'll make a cute little pregnant lady.

Want to cry and jump up and down all at once! So happy for you Millicent and Travie! I cant wait till you get all fat and swollen and you cant sleep and you cant fit through the door, wait, maybe that was just me that couldnt fit through doors. I just cant wait for you to be a mommy! You will be adorable and wonderful! My advice, dont read books, they just remind you of how bad a mom you are. I read Baby Wise and wanted to slit my wrists! You will figure it all out, I like to ask for everyones advice, and never use it. People keep telling me how to sleep train, I think sleep is for fools! I would just have TC come for a week and train him/her. Anyway, kisses, love you, congrats! Are you coming home in May for the sealing....hope to see you then!

Natalie said...

CONGRATS!!! You will be such a cute mommy! It is definitely challenging but so much fun at the same time. You just have to take it one day at a time! I would definitely read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Marc Weissbluth, Happiest Baby on the Block, and Parents magazine has helped some too. Congrats again, and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I sure miss you and I'm so thrilled for you guys. sure love ya.

Congrats! I heard from a little bird a while ago and I am glad you are making it public! Since I have such vast expertise... of about five days of being a parent.. ha ha... the thing that has helped me out is the book "What to expect- the First Year". I liked the "What to expect when expecting" because it doesn't give you opinion its a lot of fact and let's you know several different views and options that are available- that way you can choose what to do and not feel horribly guilty because you aren't doing what the book said. Also; I couldn't read a few chapters in the "what to expect when expecting" book when I was pregnant because each time I read about the symptoms of some disease I thought I for sure had it. So- I tried to refer to it only if I had specific questions. Good Luck!
